Montgomery police and the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force are continuing their investigation into a shooting that occurred late Tuesday morning, Jan. 12, on the Route 30 bridge over the Fox River that left one man dead.
In a statement issued Thursday, Jan. 14, police said the shooting occurred at approximately 11:32 a.m. and responding officers located a single vehicle involved in the incident on the bridge.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Andrew Contreras, 29, of Aurora, was found to have have a gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Montgomery Police Commander Liz Palko reported that a motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
Palko added there is no threat to the public.
The Route 30 bridge was closed for approximately three and one-half hours as village police and Kane County Major Crimes Task Force personnel conducted an initial investigation.
“The investigation into the events that led up to this incident are ongoing, and anyone with information is requested to contact Det. Novak at 331-212-9073,” police said in the statement.
