Oswego’s traditional Christmas Walk celebration will return this December after missing a year due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

The popular event annually attracts thousands of area residents to the village’s Main Street and downtown area.

The village board voted unanimously during its Oct. 19 meeting, to approve the temporary closure of Route 34 at its intersections with Jefferson Street and Main Street, Friday, Dec. 3 to allow for the Christmas Walk’s parade. There will be no detour route for the highway, but there will be occasional breaks in pedestrians so that traffic can pass.

A map provided by the village shows that the parade will begin at the former Traughber Junior High School on Franklin Street, head down Franklin Street and take a left onto Garfield Street, turn left again onto Jefferson Street and eventually onto Main Street in the downtown. From Main Street, the parade will turn left onto Tyler Street, ending up by its intersection with Washington Street.

The Christmas Walk isn’t the only holiday event planned for Oswego this winter. Village officials have previously confirmed that 2020′s drive-thru event at Venue 1012 along Orchard Road. The Holiday Express will also return this year, opening Dec. 9 and closing Dec. 12.

More information about the Christmas Walk, drive-thru event, and Holiday Express will be shared by the village as the dates approach.
