UPDATE: Yorkville man dies in crash on Route 71 near Oswego

A 37 year-old Yorkville man died in a crash on Route 71 west of Buell Road near Oswego at 1:27 a.m. Nov. 11, according to Illinois State Police.

In a statement, state police said their preliminary investigation into the crash indicates the Yorkville man was driving southwest on Route 71 west of Buell Road when his 2009 Mercedes Benz drove off the highway and struck multiple trees and a fence. The vehicle then caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames.

Police said the Yorkville man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police withheld the release of his name pending notification of family.

Route 71 was closed following the accident as police conducted their investigation. The highway was reopened at 5 a.m.

Police said the crash remains under investigation.

Kendall County Sheriff’s deputies, Oswego police and Oswego Fire Protection District firefighters also responded to the crash.
