BREAKING: Severe thunderstorm hits northern Kendall County

Police, firefighters responding to numerous reports of downed power lines, tree limbs

Kendall County area police and firefighters are responding to numerous reports of downed power lines and tree limbs amid a severe thunderstorm Wednesday morning.

Several of the downed power line reports are in the Plano area and in the unincorporated Boulder Hill subdivision. First responders are also evacuating residents in the Boulder Hill area near Marnel Street, due to a reported gas leak.

In Oswego, a power line is reported down on south Madison Street near the village’s downtown. A tree has also reportedly fallen on a power line on Hale Street in Plano.

The National Weather Service placed the northeast portion of the county under the severe thunderstorm watch at approximately 9:05 a.m. The watch remains in effect until 1 p.m., Aug. 11. The storm moved into the Yorkville area at approximately 9:30 a.m.

More than 60 power outages have been reported to ComEd in the area since the storm began, affecting more than 3,700 residents.
