High school sports roundup for Friday/Saturday, April 9/10: Oswego volleyball rallies past West Aurora, improves to 7-0 on season

Oswego d. West Aurora 19-25, 25-23, 25-23

The Panthers (7-0) rallied from down seven points in the second set and down six points in the third set to remain unbeaten on the season.

Haley Zeck had 22 assists, 11 digs, three kills and an ace, with the match-winning point coming on a Zeck kills. Middles Diana Whitfield and Kennedy Hugunin each had four kills, Whitfield adding three blocks and Hugunin two. Destiny Grey had eight kills and four digs.

“Haley Zeck was truly a leader on Saturday,” Oswego coach Julie Zeck said. “Her experience playing at the varsity level for three previous season’s, Haley has learned to keep her cool and remain focused. Seeing that her outside hitters were struggling today, Haley incorporated her middle hitters into our offense more than normal.”

Oswego d. Plainfield East 27-25, 25-21

The Panthers broke a school record Friday with their sixth straight win to start the season, led by Haley Zeck’s 19 assists and five digs.

Destiny Grey had eight kills and four digs, Stella Hunter six kills and Lauren Massie 10 digs for Oswego (6-0), which trailed 24-21 in the first set, rallied to win it 27-25 and won in two sets. Diana Whitfield and Kenny Hugunin each had two kills and Mykenzi Comperda five digs.

Sandwich d. Somonauk 23-25, 25-21, 25-11

Alexis Sexton had 18 assists and 11 digs, Cailyn Brummel 17 assists, eight kills, 11 digs and eight service points, Claire Allen 10 kills, two blocks and seven service points and Sophia Datoli 12 kills and nine digs for Sandwich (6-8).

Yorkville d. Joliet Central 25-15, 25-20

Ella Bourque had eight kills, 11 assists and three aces and Saige Avery five kills, eight assists and 13 digs for the Foxes (4-5, 4-4 Southwest Prairie Conference). Keelyn Muell had six kills and four digs, Kendall Heitz four kills and a block, Anna Burson four kills and Micaela Olsen 10 digs and five assists.
