Aurora Historical Society to honor 3rd anniversary of Pratt shooting with special exhibit

The Aurora Historical Society will commemorate the third anniversary of the mass shooting at the Henry Pratt Company and pay tribute to the five people who lost their lives Feb. 15, 2019, with a special exhibit.

The exhibit opens Friday and runs through Feb. 26 on the second floor of the Pierce Art and History Center, 20 E. Downer Place. Hours for the exhibit are noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free and masks are required.

Russell Beyer, Vicente Juarez, Clayton Parks, Josh Pinkard and Trevor Wehner were shot and killed by a disgruntled former employee at the facility in Aurora. Five Aurora police officers and a Pratt employee also were injured.

The five white crosses that stood at the factory gates in their memory, built by late carpenter Greg Zanis of Aurora, will be the centerpiece of the memorial. Zanis donated the crosses to the society before his death in 2020. In addition, the exhibit will display memorabilia left by mourners on the sidewalk outside the factory.

A video of the first anniversary exhibit is available on the historical society’s website.
