Kaneland School District 302 issued the first $38 million of $140 million of voter-mandated bonds for repairs and renovations at schools throughout the district.

In the April election, Kane County voters passed a referendum for District 302 to issue $140,274,000 in bonds for the improvements.

Plans to spend the funds include a $12 million field house at Kaneland High School, about $48 million worth of repairs, and about $80 million in upgrades for playgrounds, athletic facilities and other operational improvements.

Kaneland School Board members took the first step last week when they approved the issuance of $38,000,000 in General Obligation School Bonds during their May 28 meeting.

“We are excited to take the next step in transforming our district’s facilities,” Superintendent Dr. Kurt Rohlwing said in a news release. “This bond issuance not only reflects the community’s support for our students and their educational environment but also positions us to manage our financial obligations responsibly.”

In addition to funding facility enhancements, the money will also be used to repay outstanding debts, according to the release.
