Putnam County, St. Bede volleyball teams win regional openers

VOLLEYBALL

At Granville: Putnam County and St. Bede rolled to victories in the Class 1A Putnam County Regional quarterfinals Tuesday.

The No. 3-seeded Panthers beat No. 14 DePue 25-6, 25-9, while the No. 6 Bruins topped No. 13 LaMoille 25-13, 25-14.

Salina Breckenridge served seven points and five aces for Putnam County, while Megan Wasilewski had nine assists, seven points and an ace and Ava Hatton had eight points, four aces, four kills and three digs.

Putnam County (21-12-1) will face St. Bede (14-18-1) in a semifinal at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Panthers beat the Bruins 25-16, 24-26, 25-15 during the regular season.

Earlville 2, Mooseheart 0: Bailey Miller served 16 points and eight aces as the No. 4-seeded Red Raiders cruised to a 25-18, 25-3 victory over the No. 14 Ramblers in a Class 1A Earlville Regional quarterfinal in Earlville.

Hannah Pfaff put down 10 kills for Earlville, while Brooklynn Guelde had 10 assists.

The Red Raiders (23-6) will play No. 5 Hinckley-Big Rock in a semifinal Wednesday.

Henry-Senachwine 2, Stark County 0: Abbie Stanbary had 10 digs, seven assists and five points to help the No. 4-seeded Mallards to a 25-18, 25-7 win over the No. 12 Rebels in a Class 1A Henry-Senachwine Regional quarterfinal in Henry.

Brooklyn Thompson had 14 points and four kills for Henry, while Lauren Harbison contributed 18 assists and six points.

Henry (21-15) will face No. 5 Princeville in a semifinal Wednesday.

Fieldcrest 2, Coal City 0: The No. 1-seeded Knights beat the No. 6 Coalers 26-24, 27-25 in a Class 2A Mendota Regional semifinal in Mendota.

Fieldcrest (28-5) advances to play No. 4 Eureka in Thursday’s final.

El Paso-Gridley 2, Princeton 0: The No. 7-seeded Tigresses lost 25-17, 25-20 to the No. 3 Titans in a Class 2A Illinois Valley Central Regional semifinal in Chillicothe.

Princeton finishes 16-17-1.

GIRLS SWIMMING

At La Salle: The La Salle-Peru co-op won a pair of duals, beating Metamora (52-41) and Macomb (79-14).

Freshman Sam Nauman won the 100-yard freestyle in 56.3 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:00.73, breaking her own school record in the event.

Nauman also swam with Sarah Lowery, Finley Jobst and Kailey Goetsch to win the 200 medley relay in 2:00.78.

Goetsch also won the 50 freestyle in 27.62 seconds, while Emma Short took first in the 200 freestyle in 2:10.62.

The foursome of Clara Guglielmetti, Evvie Jeppson, Sarah Lowery and Anna Weitl won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:55.05.
