Bradley French paroled for La Salle County bow-and-arrow murder

IDOC updates its website to show French was released

Bradley French, convicted bow-and-arrow murder in the killing of Joshua Scaman in 2015 walks into the courtroom during his sentence hearing on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023 at the La Salle County Criminal Justice Center in Ottawa. French was sentenced to 15-years in prison.

Bradley French, sentenced Thursday to 15 years for second-degree murder, is on parole.

The Illinois Department of Corrections has updated its website to show French was admitted Monday and then released the same day to begin serving one year of mandatory supervised release.

French was convicted twice of killing Joshua Scaman, of Ottawa, with a razor-tipped hunting arrow in 2015 outside Illinois Valley Community College.

An appeals court reversed his conviction for first-degree murder and 30-year sentence. Earlier this year, a second jury convicted him of second degree murder. The 15-year sentence resulted in a time-served disposition because of his credits and eligibility for day-for-day good time.

French will be off parole Oct. 23, 2024.
