Rosemarie Miller, 77, of Mooers Forks, N.Y., passed away Saturday (March 25, 2017) at the UVM Health Network -- CVPH, Plattsburgh, N.Y., with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Oberwiesenthal, Germany, on Dec. 26, 1939, the daughter of Reinhold and Maria (Wolf) Reinwarth. Her parents preceded her in death.
Rosemarie grew up in a ski resort town in the Ore Mountains on the border of the Czech Republic. She told stories of being forced to stand and cheer as Hitler paraded by when he vacationed in the area, shortly before her family fled what became East Germany. Later, in her teens, Rosemarie became a Junior Olympian in alpine skiing. She met and fell in love with Robert J. Miller, U.S. Army soldier. They married on Oct. 3, 1958, in West Germany. They moved to Robert's hometown in Illinois in 1959, where they lived for more than 38 years raising their four children. During this time, Rosemarie worked as a seamstress for Kroeler Furniture then worked 33 years as a medical assistant at Riverside Medical Center, retiring in 1996. In 1997, they moved to Mooers Forks, N.Y., to help raise their granddaughter, Myranda. Sadly, Robert passed away suddenly in 1998. They had been married for 40 years. While in New York, she worked for Burton Snowboarding for several years. For the last seven years, she was employed at IFC Fulfillment in Champlain, where she will be dearly missed.
Throughout her life, Rosemarie enjoyed traveling the world to visit her family. She had the most generous heart, never forgetting a birthday or anniversary. Holidays always were special because of her spirit and traditional ways of celebrating. She enchanted everyone with carefully-chosen gifts. Daughter-in-law Lola's entire family adopted Rosemarie as part of their own for the better part of her life, affectionately calling her "Mom" Miller. Yvonne Miller referred to her as her favorite sister-in-law. She enjoyed socializing while playing bingo, attending potluck dinners at Mooers Senior Citizens Housing and participating in Mooers Good Fellowship events.
Surviving are four children, Cornelia (Connie) Guyor and husband Michael, of Clyde, N.C., Keith Miller and wife Susan, of Cheriton, Va., William Miller, of Round Lake Park, Timothy Miller and wife Lola, of Mooers Forks, N.Y.; brother and sister-in-law, James and Yvonne Miller, of St. Anne; siblings in Germany, Emilie (Milly) Maass, who just turned 90 in January, Richard Reinwarth and wife Doris, and Manfred (Mansi) Reinwarth and wife Waltraud.
