Somonauk Library announces April event lineup

SOMONAUK – The Somonauk Library, 700 E. LaSalle St., has released upcoming events and news for the month of April.

According to a news brief, the library will be closed April 15.

The Somonauk Friends of the Library will hold a book and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 1 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 2. New and gently used books will be on sale.

Kevin Wood will portray Abraham Lincoln in a first-person presentation called “Lincoln the Lawyer” at 6:30 p.m. April 7. The presentation will feature Wood sharing his experience and thoughts on the law and some of Lincoln’s most important cases. The presentation will include a Q&A, informal information and photos.

William Hazelgrove will present the program “Greed in the Gilded Age: The Brilliant Con of Cassie Chadwick” at 6:30 p.m. April 28. Hazelgrove will tell the story of con-woman Cassie Chadwick, who lived off millions of dollars by claiming to be the daughter of Andrew Carnegie.

Tot Times story hour will be continuing at 10:30 a.m. April 4, 11, 18 and 25. The storytime is geared toward children ages 3 and younger and will include hand motions, rhymes, songs and books.

The Weekly Story Hour will be at 10:30 a.m. April 6, 13, 20 and 27 for children ages 2 to 6 and will include songs, crafts, snacks and stories.

P.J. Tales, a weekly evening storytime event, will be at 6:30 p.m. April 7, 14, 21 and 28 for children ages 2 to 6. The event will include crafts, bedtime stories and snacks.

The After School Crew will hold a weekly program at 4 p.m. April 4, 11, 18 and 25. The program will be for children ages 5 to 9 and each week will feature a different hourlong STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) activity.

The library will be hosting an Easter egg hunt throughout the day April 16. The egg hunt will be held either outside or indoors depending on the weather. Please call the library to select a time slot.

Paws for Reading will be at 4 p.m. April 28. Children in grades one through six will be able to read for a total of 15 minutes with furry friends at the library. Registration is required.

Bingo will be held at 12:30 p.m. April 6, 13 and 20. There is no cost to participate, snacks will be available, and prizes are up for winning.

The library is looking to start a Reading Men’s Group. If you would be interested, please call the library at 815-498-2440.

The History Group will be meeting and discussing the book “The Women in White Coats” by Elizabeth Letts at 4 p.m. April 14.

The Thursday Night Group will be meeting and discussing “The Flight of the Sparrow” by Amy Belding Brown at 6:30 p.m. on April 14.

The Pageturners Book Group will be meeting and discussing “The Stranger in the Mirror” by Liv Constantine at 2 p.m. April 21.
