Three Sycamore businesses caught selling alcohol to minors, police say

SYCAMORE – Three Sycamore businesses were caught selling alcohol to people younger than 21 years old in a recent alcohol compliance check, police say.

According to a June 22 news release, Sycamore police officers conducted alcohol compliance checks June 21 on the below listed package beverage establishments. The businesses listed below were found in violation of city code:

  • Casey’s General Store, 105 Plank Road –JoAnn McGreevy cited for Unlawful Sale of Alcohol to a Minor
  • Premier Petro BP, 1615 DeKalb Ave. – Pintu Patel cited for Unlawful Sale of Alcohol to a Minor
  • Riverside Marathon, 503 N. Main St. – Julie Hurt cited for Unlawful Sale of Alcohol to a Minor

A minor attempted to purchase alcohol from the businesses at the direction of the Sycamore Police.

The businesses listed below were found to be in compliance:

  • 7-Eleven, 404 W. State St.
  • Circle K - Western Trail Outpost, 439 E. State St.
  • Circle K 1397, 2001 DeKalb Ave.
  • County Liquors, 625 E. State St.
  • Hy-Vee Food Store, 2700 DeKalb Ave.
  • Hy-Vee Gas Station, 2700 DeKalb Ave.
  • Laxmi Oil, 441 W. High St.
  • Lundeen’s Discount Liquor, 1760 DeKalb Ave.
  • Osco Drug #3381, 220 W. Peace Road
  • Arya Tobacco & Liquor, 310 E. State St., Unit 9
  • Cub & Spanks, 113 N. Maple St.
  • Walgreens #5603, 1340 DeKalb Ave.

“The Sycamore Police Department, in partnership with the community, strives to provide safety and health for the youth while showing great appreciation for the continued proactive support,” police officials wrote in the June 22 news release. “Compliance checks will continue in the future and we appreciate all the community support.”
