St. Mary School in DeKalb celebrates Catholic Schools Week

DeKALB – St. Mary School in DeKalb this past week celebrated Catholic Schools Week.

The theme was “Faith, Excellence and Service.”

“Catholic Schools Week is always one of the most anticipated weeks for students attending Catholic schools across the nation,” school Principal Ashley Davis said. “The celebrations and activities are built into the week that allow students to shine and share all of their talents.”

Activities the students participated in included an all-school talent show; a spelling bee; Drop Everything and Read Day; and dress-up days that included a pajama day, decade day and sportswear day. The annual eighth grade versus faculty volleyball game was postponed because of COVID-19 concerns.

Sixth grader Bella Rocush won the spelling bee, while fifth grader Max Foley was the runner-up.

The students also participated in service projects. This year, they made cards to give to the residents of local nursing homes.

Registration for new and current students for the 2021-22 school year began Feb. 1. For information about St. Mary School in DeKalb, visit www.stmaryschooldekalb.org or call 815-756-7905.
