Elgin aviation repair company looks to put down roots at DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport

DeKALB - An Elgin-based aviation and automotive repair company is hoping to lease hangar space at the DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport, and city officials say the lease could mean more air traffic for the area.

Aeromotive Services Inc., based in Elgin, specializes in providing aviation repair services and has been in business since 1996. According to city documents released ahead of Monday’s DeKalb City Council meeting, the company is seeking to lease commercial hangar space at the DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport for about $1,300 per month. The company also offers a Federal Aviation Administration-certified repair station out of Elgin.

“If the lease is approved and the new space is successful, the firm would consider relocating its FAA repair station to the DeKalb Airport,” city documents state. “The proposed Aeromotive Services, Inc. agreement supports the vision of a successful, sustainable general aviation airport.”

If the two-year lease is approved by the city council, the service company would focus on offering specialized aviation services to places which come through the airport. That could include repair or replacement of electronic instrument panels inside the plans and wiring work.

The company would set up shop in a 1,200-square-foot community hangar space, in the northeast corner of the hangar, according to documents, and pay about $560 per month for the space.

Aeromotive Services would also pay $200 per month to rent a former conference room on the first level of the airport terminal building. The lease would also include a license fee to operate the FAA-certified repair station at the DeKalb airport for an additional $400 per month.

Lease fees will also include a monthly $100 for utilities which could be increased to $125 per month after the first year.
