Junior Leon’s 5 goals send Genoa-Kingston past Rockford Christian for BNC championship

Genoa-Kingston wrapped up the Big Northern Conference championship with a resounding 7-1 win over Rockford Christian in which Junior Leon went off for five goals Tuesday in Rockford.

Leon’s five goals and one assist were complemented by a goal and two assists from Eagan Reams, one goal and one assist from Leo Rocha and an assist from Aiden Tomlinson. The Cogs are 16-1-0 overall this season and 7-0-0 in conference play.

Naperville Central 4, DeKalb 0: At Naperville, the Barbs were unable to break through on the road.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Indian Creek 2, Hinckley-Big Rock 0: At Shabbona, the Timberwolves breezed past the Royals at home in a 25-9, 25-15 victory.

Audrey Witte had eight kills and six digs for IC (10-9-2), Geena Sanford had 10 assists, and Kaitlyn Frazier had 20 digs.

Kaneland 2, Sycamore 1: At Maple Park, the Knights improved to 19-3 overall with a come-from-behind 23-25, 25-21, 25-16 win over the Spartans.

GIRLS SWIMMING

DeKalb 80, Belvidere North 78: At DeKalb, the Barbs came away with a victory in a meet that wasn’t decided until the final event.

Nicole Skrzypek took first in the 200 freestyle, Julia Rasmussen won the 100 breaststroke, Hannah Raetzke was first in the 100 butterfly and Rinna Wi won the 100 freestyle.

GIRLS TENNIS

Rochelle 3, Kaneland 2: At Rochelle, the Knights won both singles matches but went winless in doubles action in a loss to the Hubs.

Evie Taylor won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, and Lexi Maberry took the No. 2 singles match, 6-0, 6-1.

BOYS GOLF

IMSA triangular: At Aurora, Hinckley-Big Rock ended its regular season on a high note, defeating IMSA and Westminster Christian.

Elliot McGuire led the way for the Royals with a medal-winning 37, while Richard Hintzsche and Ben Hintzsche each shot a 42.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Matt Walter Invite: At Kingston, Indian Creek’s Caroline Bend took first place with a time of 19:18.

Genoa-Kingston’s Kaitlyn Jerbi came third with a time of 20:14.41.
