Update: Sycamore man accused of attacking woman at Cub and Spank’s, fleeing with gun

SYCAMORE - A Sycamore man wanted in connection to an incident where he’s accused of attacking a woman at a local liquor store and fleeing with a handgun turned himself into police early Wednesday morning.

According to DeKalb County court records, Scott D, McCall, 40, of the 100 block of West Exchange Street in Sycamore, is charged with aggravated battery in a public place and domestic battery following an incident police say happened on Saturday, Sept. 25. The incident occured at Cub and Spank’s, 113 N. Maple St., according to court documents.

McCall appeared in front of DeKalb County Circuit Court Judge Marcy Buick for a virtual bond hearing Wednesday from the DeKalb County Jail. Sycamore-based attorney Brian Erwin represented McCall in the hearing.

“It’s my understanding upon talking earlier to my client, he didn’t have any significant history,” Erwin said appealing to the judge prior to a bond ruling. “We would ask for the minimal amount. I believe that he will appear at each and every court date.”

Assistant State’s Attorney Suzi Collins said McCall hasn’t had any felony convictions since 2002, but does have four felony convictions for burglary.

Buick ruled McCall’s bond be set at $20,000. He would need to post $2,000 to get out of jail. If he posts bail, McCall was also ordered to be monitored on a restricted electronic device and to have no contact with the victim.

“There is a significant criminal history of prior convictions for burglary offenses,” Buick said in her ruling. “The defendant has been sentenced previously to the Illinois Department of Corrections. And given the nature of the allegations in this case, I do think that monetary bail is appropriate.”

A no-bond warrant was issued for McCall on Monday, Sept. 27, according to court records, and police are seeking information as they continue to investigate the incident.

According to a news release from the Sycamore Police Department, officers responded to reports of a domestic battery shortly before 9 p.m. at the bar and liquor store on Saturday, where a woman was reportedly struck in the face and her attacker fled on foot. Court records state that McCall allegedly punched the woman in her face with his closed fist.

Witnesses told police that they chased the man northwest up an alley, but stopped when they saw a black handgun “displayed in their direction,” according to Sycamore police.

Paramedics from the Sycamore Fire Department were called to help treat the injured woman, who sustained an eye injury, according to the release.

McCall has been ordered to appear for a status hearing on the charges Oct. 19 at 9 a.m.
