Suspect in Princeton teen’s murder arrested

Arrest comes a year after the murder

The Bureau County Courthouse, built in 1937, is at 700 S. Main St. in Princeton.

PRINCETON — A year after a Princeton teen was murdered outside his home, a 19-year-old Kewanee man was arrested as a suspect in the case.

Davijion Robinson was arrested without incident in Decatur on Monday by U.S. Marshals and is in custody of Bureau County Jail.

Princeton Police Chief Tom Kammerer released the following statement: “On July 1, 2020 the Princeton Police were dispatched to the Hillview Trailer Park for a report of a subject who had been shot. Upon officer’s arrival it was discovered two subjects had been shot, both were transported by ambulance as a result of their injuries. Caleb Conrath did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at Perry Hospital. His mother, Tasha Hilmes was also shot, however her wounds were not life threatening.”

Robinson was identified by witnesses as the person who shot Conrath and Hilmes.

Witnesses also described a dark colored Nissan Altima as the suspect vehicle. The Kewanee Police Department was notified of the incident and asked to look out for the suspect vehicle. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle was observed by Kewanee Police as it entered their community and immediately fled from efforts to stop it. After several hours of searching, the man was located. At that time, Robinson eluded arrest.

Robinson will appear before a judge for a bond hearing.
