Hall School Board approves resurfacing track and maintenance on parking lot this summer

Spring Valley Hall High School generic

SPRING VALLEY — Two new summer projects were approved during Wednesday night’s Hall School Board meeting. These projects are in addition to the stadium lighting project that was approved earlier in the spring.

The first project that was approved is the resurfacing of the track at a cost of $49,995. The track will receive a new base lining and then three layers of latex.

Superintendent Jesse Brandt said, “It is a good idea to resurface the track now before it gets bad again like it did six years ago and causes us to have to spend even more money to grind down the track and start over.”

The second project is maintenance on the parking lot at a cost of $36,000. Broken pavers will be fixed and rock aggregate will be added between the pavers. The lot will also be restriped.

Class rank changes

The board approved getting rid of class rank starting with the incoming freshman class next year. The Class of 2025 will not have a valedictorian, salutatorian nor top 10. The honor system will take the place of class ranks.

Students with a grade point average (GPA) of 4.2-4.59 out of 5 will be classified as Cum Laude, students with a GPA of 4.6-5.0 will be classified as Magna Cum Laude and students with a GPA above 5.0 due to honors classes will be classified as Summa Cum Laude.

The classes of 2022, 2023 and 2024 will still have a valedictorian, salutatorian and top 10 but will also be using the honor system.

Principal Adam Meyers said there are plans to change GPA from a 5.0 scale to a 4.0 scale but more work has to be done figuring out how to make the change in TeacherEase without losing data.
