A Joliet business owner and Kendall County resident reportedly told authorities he killed his father over “sleeping arrangements” during a holiday fight, according to Arizona court records.
Dustin Hegreberg, 35, of of the 2100 block of Whitetail Drive in Aurora, faces second-degree murder charges in Maricopa County, Arizona after local authorities found his 57-year-old father shot to death at a Mesa home on Sunday, Dec. 20.
A local judge set Hegreberg’s bail at $1 million, according to the Maricopa County Superior Court.
Hegreberg, the owner of Clique Nutrition Inc. in Joliet, was visiting family in Arizona at the time of his arrest. He told local authorities that his father shot a gun at him during an escalating argument.
Hergreberg admitted to local law enforcement that he took the gun from his father and shot him twice in the chest during the fight, later pouring bleach on the body to mask the smell, according to court documents.
The Aurora man also told two family members about his father’s slaying but did not contact law enforcement, court records say. Hegreberg then began driving back to Illinois, but returned to a relative’s house in Mesa where Maricopa County authorities apprehended him.
On Dec. 15, days before his father’s death, Aurora police arrested Hegreberg on charges of domestic battery and misdemeanor property damage, according Kendall County Sheriff’s Office records. He posted a $300 bond and was released from jail the following day, according to sheriff’s records.
Arizona authorities arrested Hegreberg on suspicion of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence. His preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 30 at 8:30 a.m.
