A Ford Heights man has been apprehended on charges alleging he attempted to murder another man in Steger.
About 8 p.m. Thursday, Marvin Keys, 42, of the 1400 block of East 15th Street was taken to the Will County jail on charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful possession of a weapon by felon.
Steger Police Chief Kevin Shaughnessy said Keys’ arrest was the result of a join investigation between his police department and Illinois State Police Investigation Zone 3.
On Oct. 17, Keys was involved in an altercation with a 32-year-old man on East 35th Street and shot him with a semi-automatic handgun, Shaughnessy said.
The victim suffered three gunshot wounds but survived, according to Shaughnessy.
Following the police investigation, Judge Fred Harvey signed a warrant on Tuesday for Keys’ arrest that carried a $1 million bond.
Keys will need to post $100,000 for his release from jail.
A criminal complaint alleged Keys intended to kill the other man after he “personally discharged” a firearm at him and the shooting caused “great bodily harm, permanent disability or permanent disfigurement” to the victim.
Keys was previously convicted of residential burglary in a 2009 Cook County criminal case, according to the complaint.
Harvey had signed a court order Tuesday to seal Keys’ criminal case because it contained information regarding an ongoing criminal case. The case was unsealed Friday and Keys was appointed an assistant Will County public defender.
