New Lenox residents to receive property tax rebates

Eligible New Lenox residents will receive a 50% rebate on 2019 property taxes paid in 2020.

The village had planned on returning 85% before the economic downturn.

The rebate is only on property taxes paid to the village.

Mayor Tim Baldermann said the village lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales tax revenue in 2020.

“The services we provide have to come first and the projects have to come first,” he said. “We feel we can still give a 50% rebate and still provide all of the services.”

Applications for rebates will be sent out by this week and due are back Dec. 31, Baldermann said.
