Geneva Chamber urges residents to shop local on Small Business Saturday

Annual event to support local business is Nov. 29

GENEVA – Small Business Saturday is Nov. 29, and the Geneva Chamber of Commerce is urging residents to support local retailers this holiday season.

According to a news release from the Chamber, local retailers are passionate and knowledgeable about their products, and can give personalized, one-on-one attention.

Geneva has more than 140 shops and restaurants, many in historic buildings, the release stated.

“Like many of us, local shops, restaurants, inns, service providers and even non-profits have had a challenging year. Keeping dollars in your community is more relevant now, than it ever has been. For every $100 spent in locally owned independent stores, roughly $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll and other expenditures. Spend it online and nothing comes home,” stated Laura Rush, communications manager Geneva Chamber of Commerce.

The release states that keeping dollars in Geneva will not only help the local business community, but also residents by making the city an attractive place to live.
