'This decision did not come easy': Cassie's Corn Crib Cafe announces closure in Sycamore due to pandemic

SYCAMORE – It's been a impactful few days in the Sycamore business community, as a fourth restaurant announced it will also close due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fourth Sycamore business since Friday to announce a temporary or indefinite closure due to economic strife.

Cassie's Corn Crib Cafe, 124 S. Maple St. in Sycamore made the announcement Monday evening via Facebook post. Cassie's Corn Crib Cafe is the fourth Sycamore restaurant to close in the last four days. Other restaurants include Hink's Bar & Grille, The Pantry Cafe and Taxco Mexican Cuisine.

The announcement comes after another downtown Sycamore business, The Pantry Cafe, announced Friday it would close for good because of the COVID-19 crisis, and Sunday's announcement by Taxco Mexican Cuisine that it will temporarily close beginning Nov. 14 "until further notice."

In their Facebook post, the owners of Cassie’s Corn Crib Cafe said that “this decision did not come easy, especially after all the hard work and years we have put into building and making the cafe.”

Business closures, including a ban on indoor dining and limited table gatherings implemented by the Illinois Department of Public Health and Gov. JB Pritzker due to the current COVID-19 surge regionally have had significant negative impacts on the local economy and local business owners.

In their post, Cassie's Corn Crib Cafe owners also thanked their loyal customers for their support these past three years.

“We all have enjoyed each and every customer we have served,” the post stated. “We will miss being a part of Sycamore community/restaurants.”
