A Plainfield man is facing upgraded charges of reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence in connection with a motorcycle crash that left a woman dead.

On Thursday, Corey Chattic, 48, was charged with reckless homicide and aggravated DUI, court records show. He was taken to the Will County jail the same day.

Chattic was the operator of a 2018 Harley-Davidson that was involved in a crash Aug. 12 at West Front Street near South Frontage Road in Channahon Township, Will County Sheriff spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.

Channahon police officers responded to the crash and sheriff deputies were called to assist in the investigation.

“Because of the seriousness of the accident, they requested our assistance for a (crash) reconstruction,” Hoffmeyer said.

Hoffmeyer said Chattic was traveling on Front Street when he passed a motorist in a no passing zone while approaching a curb. A witness said Chattic was driving at a high rate of speed, she said.

She said the motorcycle did not negotiate the curb, Chattic left the roadway and lost control of the motorcycle. Chattic and passenger Danielle Rachford, 32, of Geneva, flew off the motorcycle, she said.

Chattic and Rachford were taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet for treatment.

Rachford was pronounced deceased at 8:44 p.m. Aug. 12 in the hospital’s emergency room, the Will County Coroner’s Office said.

Chattic had initially been arrested on charges of misdemeanor DUI, improper traffic lane usage and failure to reduce speed.

After the charges were upgraded, Chattic was arrested and taken to jail. He remained in jail as of Friday afternoon on a $100,000 bond and will need to post $10,000 for his release.

During a court hearing Friday, Chattic entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.

On Sept. 18, Rachford’s father, Timothy Rachford, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Chattic.

The lawsuit claimed Chattic operated the motorcycle at a speed that endangered Danielle Rachford, failed to decrease speed and failed to keep a proper and sufficient look out.
