GENEVA – Geneva police and the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force are still investigating the death of a 10-week-old baby boy on Tuesday, but officials say preliminary information shows the death was likely an accident.
In an email on Friday, Police Cmdr. Brian Maduzia stated officials were still waiting for the coroner's final report determining the cause of death.
"The investigation is still ongoing for us," Maduzia's email stated. "Even days later, the family is fully cooperating in regards to follow-up questions. At this time, everything indicates that this was a tragic accident."
A text message from Kane County Coroner Rob Russell regarding preliminary autopsy results showed "no nefarious activity detected."
"It's either going to natural (death) or accidental," Russell's text stated. "Doctor is still studying."
Just before 5 a.m., Geneva police and paramedics responded to a parking lot in the 1100 block of East State Street for a report of a baby who was not breathing. A staff member at Bria of Geneva Health Services called 911 after a woman had brought the boy into the facility looking for help, the release stated.
Paramedics initially attempted to resuscitate the boy in the parking lot before transporting him to Northwestern Medical Delnor Hospital in Geneva. The hospital’s emergency staff also attempted to revive the boy before he was pronounced dead, the release stated.
The boy’s family has been cooperating with the investigation.
