Four running for vacancy on St. Charles City Council

ST. CHARLES – Four candidates are in the running to fill a vacancy on the St. Charles City Council.

Third Ward alderman William Turner created the vacancy when he resigned from the City Council on Aug. 10. There are eight months remaining in the term.

The candidates will be interviewed by the full City Council in closed session during Tuesday's City Council meeting. The City Council's selection will be announced at the Sept. 21 City Council meeting.
 
"I am pleased that multiple residents have come forward to serve in their local government as alderman," St. Charles Mayor Ray Rogina said in a news release from the city. "I look forward to engaging with the City Council in the selection process for filling the 3rd Ward seat."

The candidates include:

• Charles Amenta II, has lived in St. Charles for more than 13 years. He currently is the City Clerk and served on the Liquor Control Commission from 2012-2016. He also is a bus driver for St. Charles School District 303 and is vice president/secretary of the Renaux Manor Homeowners Association Board.
 
• Lucy Gruber, a 7-year resident of St. Charles, graduated from St. Charles North High School. She is an emergency management specialist with FEMA, and a recent graduate of Hope College in Holland, Mich.
 
• Chris Meldrum, founder of the St. Charles Rowing Club, has lived in St. Charles for 17 years. She is owner of a local real estate appraisal business and worked for more than 20 years as a treasury bond trader for Swiss Bank Corporation before retiring.
 
• Christopher Roswold returned to St. Charles six years ago after growing up in the city and moving away. He currently is CEO/managing director/co-founder of Smartopia network monitoring service and director/GM of Strategy, Planning and Execution of Custom Residential Systems home audio/video, security, and home control solutions.

He also has held several management positions at Walgreen Co.
