Will County Board appoints new ethics adviser

The Will County Board voted to appoint a new ethics adviser at its Thursday meeting.

The board appointed Rolonda Mitchell to be the county’s new ethics adviser, replacing Kathleen Kallan, who has retired, according to a news release. Kallan, a former judge, held the post since an ethics ordinance was enacted in 2006.

Will County Executive Denise Winfrey said she is pleased to have Mitchell in the role. Winfrey said in the release that she is familiar with Mitchell through her work on the county’s expungement fair and with the Black Bar Association.

“She is extremely qualified and highly respected in the legal community,” Winfrey said. “We can count on her to ensure that the county continues to have the best possible training and guidance on ethical issues.”

Mitchell is a Joliet native and was admitted to the Illinois State Bar Association in May 2009. She earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Purdue University and a law degree from John Marshall Law School.

She is an attorney with Mitchell Legal Solutions, where she concentrates her practice in family law, traffic, DUI, criminal law, driver’s license reinstatement and foreclosure mediation and defense.

“I believe this is a great opportunity for me because I love community engagement and educating the community on legal and ethical issues,” Mitchell said.
