Letter: Thank you for helping us take care of our caretakers

To the Editor:

The coronavirus (COVID-19) has thrust itself into our small community and created an unprecedented fear of health and economic loss.

A few strong local women joined forces with “Taking Care of Our Caretakers-DeKalb County” founders Katie Greer and Melissa Butts.

In an effort to carry out their mission to support our local front liners, a gofundme account was set up on March 19, 2020.

They asked the community for donations and then started purchasing meals and snacks from local restaurants and businesses, delivering to our local caretakers and keeping many local restaurant and business owner’s doors open and employees working. Often, using them more than once to help generate revenue for them.

The gofundme account has raised over $26,700 to date, spending more than 23,000 on meals and snacks. Because of you, together we have been able to purchase and provide more than 5,000 meals/snacks to local frontliners, which includes, but not limited to, health care workers, first responders, grocery clerks, gas station attendants, bankers, postal employees, garbage truck drivers, delivery drivers, auto mechanics and so many more! We have even been able to do several “Random Acts of Kindness” for many unmentioned giving community neighbors and friends. We are definitely in this together! UNITED WE STAND!

We would like to publically offer a HUGE and HEARTFELT THANK YOU to the entire DeKalb County community and local business owners who have supported our mission! Without you, we would not have been able to continue this into the month of May. We appreciate your generous donations and support during such an unprecedented time.

With sincere appreciation and gratitude,

“Taking Care of Our Caretakers-DeKalb County”
