Company donates protective masks to Elwood Police Department

A local business recently donated about 50 protective N95 masks to the Elwood Police Department.

Elwood Police Chief Fred Hayes said the company, Clearwater Paper Corporation, approached his department to see if they were interested in a donation.

Hayes said that while his officers have personal protective equipment kits to use in cases involving drugs, he wanted to abide by state police advice and have officers wear masks during the pandemic while interacting with the public and colleagues.

“We’re adopting the same procedure at this point,” he said. “It’s kind of an evolving situation.”

Hayes said that his department had some masks, but there was a limited supply so the donation comes in handy.

Clearwater Paper Corporation manufactures different types of paper products throughout the country.
