Riley Wittenberg rolled a 300 for Sycamore in the sixth game, while Michael Rae's 255 for DeKalb led a surge for the Barbs into the final qualifying spot Saturday at the DeKalb Regional at Mardi Gras Lanes.
Wittenberg finished with a 1,270 for the Spartans, third on the team and 11th overall as Sycamore took second (6,325) to St. Charles East (6,486). Geneva was third (6,150) and DeKalb fourth (5,960).
Riley Runowiecki was third overall for Sycamore with a 1,354. Rae's 1,350 was second and Edgar Burgos of St. Charles East won with a 1,390.
The Barbs entered the sixth and final game in sixth place, with the top four teams advancing to the Sycamore Sectional, to be held next week at Mardi Gras. But the Barbs rolled a 1,092 in the final game to pass Huntley and St. Charles North for the final spot. In addition to Rae's big Game 6, Clayton Lindgren rolled a 225 – just his second game of the day over 200.
Jeffery Gasso had a 1,308 for Sycamore to take eighth overall, while Aaron Olson was the second-highest DeKalb finisher with a 1,202, good for 19th.
BOYS BASKETBALL
IC downs IMSA: The Timberwolves improved to 17-0 with a 76-43 win at IMSA.
Cam Russell scored 24 to go with four assists and four steals. Cooper Larsen had 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Brennen McNally added 13 points, six rebounds and three steals. Drew Gaston had 10 points, six assists and five steals.
Kaneland falls to Glenbard South: The Knights lost, 54-51.
Brett David scored 13 to lead Kaneland.
BOYS WRESTLING
Barbs sweep quad: DeKalb won a trio of matches at Libertyville.
The Barbs beat Conant, 43-30, Lyons, 46-24, and the hosts, 45-28.
Ben Aranda, Austin Martin, Blake McGee, Tommy Curran, Fabian Lopez, Bradley Gillum and Bryson Buhk each went 3-0 for DeKalb.
