BREAKING: Oswego High School confirms passing of Assistant Principal William Nunamaker

In a letter sent to parents and student Sunday, Jan. 12, Oswego High School Principal Mike Wayne confirmed the death of Assistant Principal and Activities Director William Nunamaker due to brain cancer.

"He was bravely battling brain cancer over the past year, but sadly on Friday he passed away due to the illness," Wayne wrote in the letter.

"Mr. Nunamaker joined our Panther Family seven years ago and quickly became a valued and respected leader, mentor and huge Panther supporter," the letter continued.

"He was a very honest, dependable and caring individula who always had our students' best interest at heart."

The OHS Student Services Department will be made available, Wayne wrote, should students need assistance in processing or coping with the news of Nunamaker's death. The school will also have additional teaching and secretarial support from the district at the school tomorrow, to allow staff to have time for support and assistance.

"Please keep Mr. Nunamaker's wife, family, friends and colleagues in your thoughts during this very difficult time," Wayne asked in the letter.

"Our school has lost a great leader; together we will grieve, comfort and overcome our sadness. Bill will always remain a Panther in the hearts of many, and his positive influence and loyalty to our school will forever be woven in the fabric of OHS," he wrote.

An announcement will be shared with the entire school Monday, Jan. 13, at the start of the second class period, and will also hold a moment of silence in honor of Nunamaker.

Those with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact Oswego High School.
