Cops: Joliet man broke down door, threatened girlfriend

A Joliet man was arrested after he broke down the door of a residence he shares with his girlfriend and threatened to harm her while holding a knife, deputies said.

About 2 p.m. Monday, Will County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of an alleged assault involving Carl R. Bailey, 42, of the 1000 block of East Clinton Street, Will County Deputy Chief Dan Jungles said.

Jungles said Bailey and his girlfriend argued over infidelity issues before they both left their home.

Jungles said the couple then returned home, with Bailey’s girlfriend arriving first.

When Bailey tried to enter the residence while wearing a hooded sweatshirt, his girlfriend didn’t recognize him and refused to let him inside, Jungles said.

Bailey then broke down the door while holding a knife and threatened to harm his girlfriend, Jungles said.

Another man who was inside the residence tried to call 911, but Bailey allegedly smacked the phone out of his hand, Jungles said.

Bailey was arrested and booked into the Will County jail about 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Bailey was charged with possession of a weapon by felon, criminal trespass to a residence, criminal damage to property, aggravated assault with the use of a deadly weapon and interfering with a report of domestic violence, according to court records.

On Aug. 9, Bailey pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft. He was sentenced to 100 days in jail, credited with having served 14 days and fined $850.
