Police: Leland man chokes woman with sweatshirt

SYCAMORE – A Leland man police say tried to choke a woman with her sweatshirt was released on his signature Monday on the condition he be monitored for alcohol use.

Jamison B. Brown, 25, of the
100 block of East North Street, was charged with domestic battery and aggravated domestic battery after police said he hit a woman in the face and choked her three times along a back road north of Shabbona, according to court records.

If convicted of the more serious charge of aggravated domestic battery, he could face up to seven years in prison.

According to court records, DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 11 p.m. Jan. 3 to the R&R Pub in the 100 block of W. Comanche Ave. in Shabbona.

The woman had a black left eye and she said was not connected to the incident, but also had a right eye and top lip that both were swollen, in addition to a red neck and blood on her lip, according to court documents.

The woman told police that she was in a car with Brown when he started “acting crazy,” according to court documents, and would not let her out of the car when she asked. According to court records, the woman said Brown hit her in the face and choked her three times using her sweatshirt to the point where she could not breathe for 15 seconds or longer.

Brown told her he was part of the Mafia and that he would kill her and leave her in a cornfield, according to court records. He dropped the victim at the pub and then fled the scene, according to court records.

In court Monday, Judge Phillip Montgomery ordered Brown to be released on his signature, be placed on pre-trial supervision and that he wear an alcohol-monitoring bracelet. He was instructed to have no contact with the victim.

Montgomery also ordered him to turn in his FOID card and all firearms into the sheriff’s office.

He next is due in court at 9 a.m.
Feb. 28.
