YORKVILLE – The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office now has a new "good boy" addition to help find missing people.

Sheriff's officials announced in a Monday, Dec. 23, news release the sheriff's office's newest member of their K9 unit: Rizzo, a 10-month-old bloodhound from Tennessee.

Rizzo is a scent-discriminative bloodhound, specializing in locating missing and lost people through scent evidence collection. His first day of service was Wednesday, Dec. 18, according to the news release.

Kendall County Sheriff Dwight Baird said in the release that the sheriff's office made the decision to obtain the bloodhound to reduce the time it takes to begin tracking a missing or endangered person. He said in the news release that seconds count when a child, disabled person or elderly individual goes missing.

Rizzo began his training at a ranch in Bolivar, Tennessee, and moved to Tallahassee, Florida, to continue his training. He later joined his handler, Dep. John Cady, in Bolivar, where they both completed their scent evidence K9 handler team certificate Dec. 13.

Rizzo will live with Cady, the news release said.
