SYCAMORE – Police say a DeKalb man took and kept inappropriate photos and videos of underage girls on his phone.
Matthew D. Powell, 35, of the
500 block of Horizon Lane was charged with unauthorized videotaping, recording or live transmission after DeKalb police learned that he had photos on two girls on his phone. Police arrested him at his home on Monday.
If convicted, Powell could face up to five years in prison.
According to court documents, police investigated the report and found several videos and pictures on his phone, which were taken so that they could see through or underneath the girls’ clothes. Several of the videos and photos focused on the girls’ buttocks and breasts, according to court records.
The girls were under the age of 18 when the photos were taken, according to court records.
In an interview with police, Powell admitted to taking the images, according to court records. He also allowed investigators to search his phone, during which police found the photos and videos, according to court records.
Judge Robbin Stuckert on Tuesday ordered Powell released on his signature. She also ordered him to have no no contact with the victims or other children until further ordered by the court.
He next is due in court Jan. 17.
