The son of Steven Douglas Dobry has been found in Florida.
Dobry is a U.S. Navy veteran who died Oct. 19 at Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital. Officials had been unable to locate the 60-year-old homeless man’s family.
Mark Justen, of Justen Funeral Home and Crematory in McHenry, is in the process of planning a memorial service for Dobry and has been searching for the man’s family.
Family of Dobry's son and namesake, Steven Dobry, contacted the funeral home Friday. A McHenry resident, who did not want to be named, searched and found Dobry's family after seeing an article about the search for relatives in the Northwest Herald. After being contacted, the family reached out to Justen.
The younger Dobry found out about his father’s death and upcoming funeral Friday and shared a comment about his father via email.
“My father was a good man with a big heart, and he fell victim to unfortunate circumstance. I appreciate the light being shed on him, and I know he would too. Thank you.”
About a week before Dobry’s death, members of the Marengo Fire Protection District were called to 6225 Lakewood Drive in Marengo for a report of a medical emergency. Paramedics took Dobry to the hospital, where he was placed in the intensive care unit before his death. Marengo fire officials declined to provide details about the incident, citing health privacy law.
