DeKalb man charged with sexual assault released from Will County jail

A DeKalb man charged with criminal sexual assault was released from the Will County jail after a judge reduced his bond.

Brady Bui, 23, of the 800 block of Lucinda Avenue, was arrested Tuesday after he was charged with sexually assaulting a teenage girl last year.

Bui was being held on a $150,000 bond, but Judge Dave Carlson granted a motion from Bui’s attorney, Paul Lytle, on Thursday to lower his bond to $50,000.

After Bui posted 10% of his bond, he was released from jail about 4:40 p.m. the same day.

Lytle asked Carlson to lower Bui’s bond after arguing that he has no criminal history, didn’t pose a flight risk and is a student majoring in business at Northern Illinois University with plans to graduate in December.

NIU spokesman Joe King said the school’s business college and registrar’s office have confirmed “no student by that name is currently enrolled, nor has anyone by that name ever attended NIU.”

Lytle did not respond to a call or message about Bui’s student status.

He did say that, while the allegations against Bui in the bill of indictment are serious, the “allegations are just allegations.”

Will County Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Fillipitch objected to Bui’s bond being reduced. She said Bui has been charged with forcing himself on the girl, covering her mouth with his hand and forcing her to perform sexual acts.

“She did tell him no,” she said.

After Carlson granted Lytle’s motion, he ordered Bui to have no contact with the accuser, her family, her residence or anyone younger than 18.

A preliminary hearing in Bui’s case has been scheduled for Nov. 8.
