Geneva Wellness Weekend packed with perks

The Modern Domestic Woman column

Everyone’s definition of wellness is different.

For me, wellness has no size or perfect number. Wellness means having peace in my mind, body and spirit, and my mission is to help other women find their peace to thrive instead of simply survive.

Geneva Wellness Weekend

On the journey to support women, I'm excited to be a part of the Geneva Wellness Weekend taking place Oct. 19 and 20. I'll be participating at the open house planned from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 19 at the recently launched Cafe & Barr at 407 S. Third St. at Dodson Place in Geneva with other amazing local businesses and practitioners.

A busy weekend promoting community health and education, Geneva Wellness Weekend will feature a Workout Crawl with free fitness classes from X’s & O’s Pilates, Peak Fitness Studio & Retail Boutique, Pure Barre, H4 Training-Geneva, Geneva Fit, and Jazzercise Geneva, plus a guided meditation hosted by Salternative Spa and more.

Sign up for weekend events

Registration is required for the Workout Crawl, as space is limited, so be sure to visit the Geneva Wellness Weekend events page on Facebook to reserve your spot and find out the location of your desired class.

A free, drop-in class for kids of all ages will feature Silk Dancing at Harvey's Tales from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday.

During the open house at Cafe & Barr, several health and wellness businesses and practitioners will be featured including a Modern Domestic Woman favorite, DeeDee Mehren, a certified holistic nutritionist from Feed Mind Body Soul.

Mehren’s take on wellness is centered on the entire person, and when we spoke of diet and lifestyle choices, she shared her approach to wellness for her clients:

“We could be eating nothing but salads, green juice and smoothies, as well as exercising daily, and still be very unhealthy,” Mehren explained. “I approach a client's goals around the four pillars of health – nutrition, movement, stress and sleep.”

Mehren went on to compare the pillars to holding up a table.

“If one leg is weak, whatever that table is holding up will come crashing to the ground,” she said.

At the Geneva Wellness Weekend, Mehren will offer a free meal plan (valued at $20) and give attendees the opportunity to enroll in her “30 Days to Feeling Fabulous” program in January.

Running analysis workshop for wellness

Geneva Wellness Weekend is hosted by Within Reach Health Physical Therapy + Wellness, located in Downers Grove and Geneva. WRH will present a running analysis workshop from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Cafe & Barr on Saturday.

“Our mission is to inspire people to move well, live well and be well through quality care, individualized attention and coaching in self-health advocacy,” shared WRH owner Brynn Rooney, who has a doctorate in physical therapy. “We offer whole-body, whole-life health solutions.”

Facial care weekend

Bare All Beauty Bar will offer a facial special all weekend at its new store on State Street and Kristi Janssen, a licensed massage therapist of Healing Falls Massage Therapy, graciously will give 10-minute chair massages.

If you’re looking for support to move forward in all areas of your life, Aimee Harris Schlueter of Best in YOU Life Coaching offers a powerful process to help, and will be at the Geneva Wellness Weekend open house on Saturday to speak with people.

Green Gypsy Juice wellness

Chelsey Lutz of Green Gypsy Juice will offer healthful juices and smoothies at her shop from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, with a complimentary dirty lemonade or spicy lemonade with every $15 purchase, while supplies last.

The Modern Domestic Woman will be in attendance, serving up a dash of fun, conversation about mental health, and a raffle for a $75 self-care basket filled with goodies from area small businesses.

There’s so much more in store for you at the Geneva Wellness Weekend, I couldn’t possibly list all the perks you will experience. Participants also can enter to win Geneva prize packages.

All I can say is there’s an abundance of stellar services, goods and information teeming in Kane County – all in the name of health and wellness.
