A 50-year-old man was arrested on a battery charge in New Lenox after he pulled a boy out of the driver’s seat of a car after wrongly believing that the boy had struck a relative, police said.
About 3 p.m. Oct. 5, officers went to the 1000 block of Midnight Pass after receiving a report of a fight, according to a news release from the New Lenox police.
An officer arrived and spoke to a boy involved in the incident.
The boy told police that he was driving down the street when Kevin M. O’Connor, of the 1100 block of Palmer Ranch Drive in New Lenox, stood in front of his car.
The boy said that when he stopped the car, O’Connor pulled him from the driver’s seat of the vehicle, police said.
Police said that O’Connor thought that the boy had struck one of his family members during an argument.
However, the boy had not in fact hit anyone, New Lenox Deputy Chief Louis Alessandrini said.
O’Connor was arrested at the scene on probable cause of battery and taken to the police department, where he posted bond and was released on his own recognizance.
No one was injured in the incident, police said.
