SRACLC unveils Illumi*Nation sensory room

MUNDELEN – The Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County unveiled its new, state-of-the-art multi-sensory room, Illumi*Nation, housed at Washington Early Learning Center in Mundelein.

The room, the first of its kind in northern Lake County, features high- and low-tech sensory equipment in which vibrant lights, sounds, aromas and textures stimulate all the senses.

Planning for the room started in early 2018 and installation was completed by Flaghouse in May 2019. Donations were raised throughout the community, with naming rights going to Mitsubishi Electric.

“It has been a privilege to be a part of Illumi*Nation. Seeing it start from an idea to now being a fully functional sensory room with the highest-rated equipment has been an amazing experience. I cannot wait to see the impact this room will have,” Kara Miller, SRACLC recreation coordinator, said in a news release.

About 90 individuals recently attended an open house to tour the new facility and begin the registration process.

The SRACLC-Mitsubishi Electric Sensory Room Illumi*Nation started programming in the fall with 1:1 therapy sessions Tuesdays and Wednesdays and drop-in free time on Saturdays.
