A gas leak at the IHOP in Peru forced customers out of the restaurant Friday evening.

Diner Alan Kellett said the smell of gas filled the restaurant and customers had to leave when the Peru fire department showed up to the scene, which occurred around 6 p.m. Firefighters said Ameren was called to shut off the gas in the restaurant.

As of 7:15 p.m., IHOP employees said the restaurant had resumed business.
