Coroner gives cause of death for former Sandwich fire chief

SANDWICH – The DeKalb County coroner has an official cause of death for the former Sandwich Fire Protection District chief.

DeKalb County Coroner Dennis Miller said Sandwich Fire Chief Jason Pruski died of natural causes last month. He said Pruski’s death was cardiac-related.

Pruski was 47 years old at the time of his death.

The update comes after Pruski died July 29 at Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital in Sandwich. Hundreds of family, friends and fire officials from surrounding communities came to offer condolences during visitation Aug. 2 and funeral services Aug. 3.
