Joliet starts work on Hennepin Drive water tower

The city this week began a three-month refurbishing of the Joliet water tower at 3340 Hennepin Drive.

"The 42-year-old water tower requires routine maintenance including structural modifications and repainting to bring the structure up to current codes and regulations," the city said in a news release. "The tower will be repainted with a similar theme of blue and red stars on a white background with the city logo."

The work is planned for completion in October.

"While the work is ongoing, a full containment system will be installed for dust control and to protect adjacent properties from particulate matter," the release said.

The water tower coating to be removed contains no hazardous components, the city said.

The work will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays.
