'Comicopolis' returns to Lockport library July 27

The White Oak Library District’s Lockport branch will host its fifth annual “Comicopolis” on July 27.

Fans of comic books, video games and more will be able to hear and learn from artists, participate in cosplay and much more, according to a news release.

This year, Comicopolis will features special guests such as Dan Brereton, a five-time Eisner nominee and Inkpot winner for his comics, illustrations and stories. His works include “Nocturnals,” “Giantkiller,” “The Psycho” and “The Last Battle.”

DC comic writer Marc Andreyko also will be in attendance.

Local artist Gene Ha, famous for the graphic novel “Mae,” will attend, coming straight from San Diego Comic-Con. He will exhibit and present a class on “How to draw anything.”

Lockport resident, stunt man and actor Jordan Vintryst, whose credits include “Divergent,” “Chicago PD” and “Chicago Fire,” also will attend.

Lorrisa Julianus, who portrayed Sonya in “Mortal Combat,” will have a presentation on what it’s like to be a video game motion capture actor.

In addition, more than 50 local artists, illustrators, writers, presenters and vendors will be at the event with their art, comics, graphic novels and fandom items for sale.

Attendees also will have the opportunity to see a 1989 Batmobile replica and the Time Machine DeLorean from “Back to the Future.” One lucky attendee will be selected to win a ride in the DeLorean at 2:30 p.m.

Zombie Army Productions also will attend with costumed creatures and backdrops for picture-taking. A green screen photo booth will be front and center on the second floor.

There also will be a cosplay costume contest starting at 3:30 p.m. under the tent outside. Five cosplayers each will be awarded a $50 gift card for winning.

The first 500 in line for Comicopolis will get swag bags.

Door prizes also will be available for scores of lucky attendees, drawings for gift baskets, a scavenger hunt, food trucks and Comicopolis-branded merchandise.

Comicopolis is an event for all ages that will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the library, located at 121 E. Eighth St. in downtown Lockport.
