Morris Hospital honors volunteers

Morris Hospital honored 232 active volunteers at the 2019 Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon in May at Morris Country Club. This year’s national volunteer week theme, “Volunteers: Every Moment Makes a Difference” rang true for volunteers who donated more than 43,000 hours of service in support of Morris Hospital over the past year.

“When we talk about our Morris Hospital family, there are always four groups who come to mind,” said Morris Hospital President and CEO Mark Steadham. “Our employees, physicians, board members and, of course, our devoted and selfless Morris Hospital volunteers who have been carrying out the wonderful tradition of community volunteerism that has been part of our organization for the past 114 years.”

Steadham said volunteers with the Morris Hospital Patient Transportation Service make a difference every time they give a ride to someone in the community who needs assistance getting to and from a medical appointment. He said volunteers make a difference each time they interact with patients and visitors, assist customers in the Gift Shop, bring smiles to patients through the pet therapy program, assist at screenings and special events, assemble admission folder packets and knit or crochet hats for newborns or blankets for cancer patients.

The hospital also acknowledged volunteers who achieved significant anniversaries as Morris Hospital volunteers this past year. Donna Binion, Ralph Binion, Judy Kramer, Bob Patnode and Missie Wright were recognized for 20 years of volunteer service. Jan Christensen was recognized for 30 years, and Marilyn Wilder was recognized for 35 years. The following were honored for achieving milestones in their service hours:
