Cook County jail guard arrested in Joliet on sex abuse charges

Victim was 8 years old, according to the warrant

A Cook County jail guard was arrested in Joliet on charges alleging he sexually abused an 8-year-old girl, according to court records.

About 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, Fernando Dominguez, 49, of the 2900 block of Streitz Drive in Joliet was booked into the Will County jail on charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

The criminal complaint alleges
that Dominguez sexually abused
a girl between Nov. 10, 2017, and
April 21.

Will County Judge Ed Burmila signed a warrant for Dominguez’s arrest on Wednesday. The warrant indicated the victim is an 8-year-old girl. The warrant carries a $750,000 bond.

Joliet police Sgt. Christopher Botzum has not responded to requests for information on Dominguez’s arrest.

Cook County Sheriff spokeswoman Sophia Ansari said Dominguez worked as a guard at the Cook County jail.

He has been working for the
sheriff's office since June 1995, she said.

Ansari said Dominguez has been de-deputized as a result of the criminal charges. She said the sheriff’s office is conducting an internal investigation of Dominguez.

Dominguez faces four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Class 2 felonies are punishable by three to seven years in prison and fines of up to $25,000.

He had a court appearance Friday.
