Steve Samet

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. — Stephen Wayne Samet died Monday, June 3, 2019, at his home in Mount Pleasant, S.C. He will be scattered in the Atlantic Ocean in a private ceremony with his family.

Steve was born June 23, 1944, in Chicago. After graduating Brother Rice High School, he graduated with a psychology degree from the University of Illinois. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army and held the rank of first lieutenant.

After his service and a brief stint in HR, he moved to Princeton, where he lived for almost 50 years and began his broadcast career. He owned and operated multiple radio stations in Princeton, Henry and Effingham, as well as in Winter Haven, Fla.

Steve served above and beyond his own businesses, and embraced his industry as an officer on the Illinois Broadcasters Association and an elected director on the National Association of Broadcasters.

Steve loved his community and gave back, serving on multiple boards, including the board of directors for Citizens First National Bank, Bureau Valley Country Club and Perry Memorial Hospital, to name a few.

One of the best notes of Steve’s character is the number of people who have given thanks to him for helping them start their careers.

Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Marge; his father, Wally; and his wife, Bernadette. He is survived by a brother, Al of Tucson, Ariz.; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Lauren Samet of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; and two grandkids, Justin and Brady, of Mount Pleasant, S.C.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family would ask that you make a donation to either Flags of Freedom or Zearing Child Enrichment Center.
