Future unknown for space that previously housed The Finery and Blacksmith Bar

St. Charles restaurant closed its doors at end of April

ST. CHARLES – It is not yet known what will replace The Finery and Blacksmith Bar restaurant at 305 W. Main St. in downtown St. Charles.

The restaurant, run by husband and wife David and Juliette Reyes, closed in April after being open since July 2015. In an email, St. Charles Director of Community and Economic Development Rita Tungare said the city has not yet received any plans for the space, which is owned by Universe Properties LLC. The space had previously housed Copper Fox Cafe.

The restaurant's name had been a nod to the intersection's history. The intersection of 3rd and Main streets was at one time home to Klink’s Wagon and Blacksmith Shop, according to the St. Charles History Museum.

In a Facebook post, David Reyes thanked those who supported their venture.

"It is better to have tried and failed, then to have never tried at all," he said in the post. "The most valuable things that came from opening The Finery was the people that came to it, and into our lives. Julie and are eternally grateful to have met and made friendships with so many beautiful people."

They also had owned the now closed Restaurant Juliette in Geneva and were involved with The Grandstander in St. Charles, which also has closed.
