Two District 58 students advance to national PTA Reflections competition

DOWNERS GROVE – Two Downers Grove Grade School District 58 students advanced to the national level of the PTA Reflections art competition.

Sienna Chansey, a first-grader at Lester School, and Sarah Richtman, an eighth-grader at Herrick Middle School, earned the highest level of PTA Reflections.

The Illinois State PTA selected only 25 students to advance to the national level. Every year, the PTA Reflections program invites students in grades preschool through 12 to submit original works of art in one of six categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.

This year’s theme is “Heroes Around Me.” Chansey advanced in the dance choreography category for her entry titled, “Dance For Heroes,” while Richtman advanced in the literature category for her story, “Heroes Around Me.”

The National PTA will announce this year’s national winners May 1.

In addition, five District 58 students earned honorable mentions at the PTA Reflections state level. Honorable mentions were awarded to two Highland second-graders, Ashley Warmbir and Maahi Shah, two students from Hillcrest, fourth-grader Erin Sievert and second-grader Jaxon Sydello, and Michaela Romero, an eighth-grader from Herrick.
