A Joliet man who struck his girlfriend also had attempted to strike an officer who responded to the scene, police said.
About 10 p.m. Wednesday, officers went to a residence in the 3700 block of Pandola Avenue after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance, Joliet police Sgt. Christopher Botzum said in an email.
Officers were able to determine that Joseph H. Camire, 36, and his girlfriend had gotten into an argument, Botzum said. During the course of the argument, Camire struck his girlfriend in the face and pulled her hair, he said.
Once the officers arrived, they began to speak to Camire and he became confrontational with them, Botzum said.
Camire reached his hand back as if he was going to strike one of the officers, Botzum said, but only struck the flashlight that was in the officer’s hand.
The officers told Camire that he was under arrest and to place his hands behind his back, Botzum said, but Camire refused to do so.
Botzum said after a brief struggle, Camire was placed in custody.
Camire was charged with domestic battery, aggravated assault and resisting a police officer.
He was taken to the Will County jail shortly after 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
He is being held at the jail on a $15,000 bond.
